Seguin Education Foundation’s Mardi Gras Fundraiser Breaks Records!

Seguin’s generosity and community spirit shined brighter than ever at this year’s Seguin Education Foundation (SEF) Mardi Gras fundraiser! With an incredible turnout and overwhelming support, the event raised a record-breaking $163,500, surpassing last year’s total of $119,000.

A Milestone Worth Celebrating

SEF Executive Director Jill Nash couldn’t be more thrilled with the results. Not only did this year’s event exceed expectations, but it also marked an incredible milestone—since its founding in 2004, the SEF has now awarded over $1 million in grants to Seguin ISD students and teachers.

“This is something truly special,” said Nash. “We always set our sights on raising more each year, but to see the total surpass our goal is just incredible. And hitting the $1 million mark in grants? That’s something worth celebrating!”

A Night of Fun, Giving, and Community Support

Held in late February at the Seguin Coliseum, the Mardi Gras event was an unforgettable night packed with exciting games, a vacation raffle, live and silent auctions, and a delicious catered meal from the Burnt Bean Co..

Behind the scenes, an incredible team of dedicated leaders and volunteers made it all possible. Co-chairs Steve Parker and Bryan Sphan, along with the SEF Board of Directors, worked tirelessly to bring the community together in support of local education.

“Our board is made up of amazing business owners and community leaders who all share the same goal—to make Seguin a great place to live, learn, grow, and play,” said Nash. “Their commitment helps bridge the gap between businesses and the school district, creating meaningful support for students and teachers.”

More Than Just Classroom Grants

While the SEF is known for funding innovative classroom tools and programs that go beyond the regular school budget, this year, a portion of the proceeds was also dedicated to the Fund-A-Need campaign.

“For 2024, our Fund-A-Need focus was on district counselors,” Nash shared. “We raised $10,800 to provide additional resources for student health and well-being, ensuring that counselors at every Seguin ISD campus have what they need to support students.”
