Great things are happening in Seguin! Thanks to a heartwarming partnership between the Seguin Public Library and Compudopt, 125 families now have a home computer—opening doors to education, entertainment, and opportunity.
A Community Effort for a Brighter Future
The Seguin Public Library has always been a place for learning and growth, and this latest initiative is proof of its dedication to our community. Partnering with Compudopt, a nonprofit that refurbishes donated computers, the library awarded the devices through a lottery system, ensuring they reached families who needed them most.
Library Assistant Director Hannah Farmer shared how exciting it was to see so many families apply for the program. “We were really happy and amazed by how many people registered,” she said. “It was a great turnout!”
Smiles, Excitement, and New Possibilities
The best part? The joy on people’s faces as they received their computers.
“It was a really fun time seeing all the happy and smiling faces,” Farmer shared. “People were talking about how it will be easier to stream educational videos and use resources for school or work. We even encouraged many new visitors to sign up for a free library card and explore all the resources available to them.”
This initiative isn’t just about providing technology—it’s about empowering families. Many recipients had been relying solely on phones or tablets, but having a full-size computer will now give them better access to online learning, job searches, and digital library resources.
Looking Ahead: More Opportunities to Come
This giveaway was such a success that Compudopt hopes to return to Seguin in the future. While future events will depend on corporate donations, the nonprofit is committed to helping more families bridge the digital divide.
According to Compudopt, 41% of families still lack access to a computer at home. Thanks to programs like this, that number is steadily decreasing—one computer at a time.

Farmer also applauded the community for recognizing the library as a trusted resource.
“Some people were hesitant at first, wondering if this was too good to be true,” she said. “But once they saw the library’s name, they knew it was legitimate. We always research and partner with reputable organizations, and Compudopt is an amazing 501(c)(3) nonprofit.”
